Quick Staff UK is recruiting an experienced HGV Class 1 Shunter to join one of our long-standing manufacturing clients based in the Blackwood area.
This is a temporary assignment expected to run until the end of October, with the possibility of being extended depending on the client’s requirements.
The role involves providing shunting cover across the client’s day and afternoon operation, working alongside a permanent night-shift Shunter. Start and finish times will therefore vary from week to week to ensure the site has the required cover.
We’re looking for someone with previous shunting experience and a valid HGV Class 1 licence who is flexible regarding their working hours and can confidently manoeuvre vehicles and trailers within a busy manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Shunting trailers safely around the manufacturing site
- Positioning trailers correctly for loading and unloading
- Moving vehicles and trailers around the yard as required
- Carrying out relevant vehicle and safety checks
- Working closely with warehouse, production and logistics teams
- Following site traffic management and Health & Safety procedures
- Supporting general yard operations when required
Key Requirements
- HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) licence – essential
- Previous shunting experience – essential
- Confident manoeuvring HGVs and trailers within a busy yard environment
- Must be flexible regarding start and finish times
- Reliable with excellent attendance and timekeeping
- Strong awareness of vehicle and site safety
- Able to work independently as well as part of a wider team
- Comfortable working across both day and afternoon shifts
Hours & Pay
- Monday to Friday
- 10-hour shifts each day
- Working across the day and afternoon shifts
- Shift times will vary from week to week depending on operational requirements
- Shifts could be 5am – 3pm / 6am-4pm / 7am – 5pm or 10am – 9pm
- Basic rate: £13.40 per hour
- 17.5% shift allowance
- Total hourly rate: £15.75 per hour
- Expected to run until the end of October, with the potential to be extended
